13th century
The Church of Santa Lucía which was originally Romanesque, was almost completely rebuilt in the 17th century. It is the repository of pieces of the adjacent Zamora Museum, located in the attached “Palacio del Cordón” (Palace of the Cord). It is believed that this area was settled in the Jewish quarter of Zamora, so due to the “Santa Lucía” martyrological dedication, this theory is reinforced.
The northern wall and its conical-frustum corbels, the northern half of the west gable and its slightly pointed cover, remain from the Romanesque temple.
The floor plan has a single nave and a single head part, although it had two aisles. It is a small building and it has been renovated several times. The largest one was during the 17th century, when it was renovated completely: the original apse was demolished to build a new larger one and it was built the remarkable belfry too. There is nothing of the original southern doorway left either, but the northern side is practically intact.
Thanks to its perfect preservation, this temple is great tourist attraction.
