Románico Zamora

Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción

13th century

This parish church has Romanesque origins and traces but mainly dates from the 15th century. From its construction time has only been preserved ashlar wok. 

The church consists of a rectangular nave with polygonal head part, and has several side chapels, 2 of which mark the transept and its Romanesque tower is of recent construction.

The interior is especially interesting. Worthy of special interest is the altarpiece. It is a work of Lorenzo de Ávila and is very similar to the one in the church of Santo Tomás Cantuariense in Toro. Next to it, can be seen a mural painting and a beautiful Plateresque reliquary.

The access is free of charge but there are neither visiting hours nor guided tours. 

The temple can be visited only during mass celebrations.
