Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción

13th century

Tower dates from the 13th century, but the church was modified in the 18th century. It has a single nave and a Latin cross plan. 

The tower has a masonry rectangular plan with reinforcing ashlar in corners. On it rise 3 ashlar bodies topped by a stone spire and its size is reduced. The construction of this tower is attributed to the Templar Knights, being a watchtower for military purposes, and has been part of the church as belfry. It was declared National Monument in 1931. 

Each floor of the tower has a series of openings. The first gives access to the tower by an outside staircase of 2 sections. Some of them have small columns topped by plant-motifs capitals, with a pointed arch that has a slightly irregular trace. The second floor presents a similar decoration to the first. The third is the belfry. In this body appears an ox bust.

Inside there is a Romanesque sculpture of the Virgin and Child.

OPENING HOURS AND VISITS

The access is free of charge but there are neither visiting hours nor guided tours. 

The temple can be visited only during mass celebrations.
